Deck The Halls
For the past couple of months we’ve been sneakily eating mince pies and listening to Mariah telling us what she wants for Christmas, but now that it’s December, we can officially begin to celebrate the festive period loud and proud. Decorating your home for Christmas really does get you into the spirit of the season and these simple tips bring the feeling of Christmas to your home beautifully.
Dressing the mantel
The mantel is such a focal point during the rest of the year, that it makes sense to add some character around the holidays. Our top tip is to ensure that there is a feeling of togetherness, with each element having a common denominator, such as a theme or colour group. Finishing touches such as glass vases of peppermint canes, stockings hung in a symmetrical pattern and lots of evergreen will ensure a truly festive mantel.
We are big fans of a feature wall, which is why we want to make the most of the opportunity around Christmas. Wreaths aren’t just for the front door, they also look lovely hung on picture hooks or suspended with clear fish wire. Experiment with ivy, willow or bauble wreaths for a different take on the look. Another way to create a statement with your wall is to put up large letters spelling out seasonal words such as ‘jolly’, ‘noel’ or ‘merry’, they perfectly capture the sentiment without overpowering your living space.
Light it up
Flood your home with light to make it warm and inviting. White church candles arranged on gold or silver plates, are a timeless classic. Place these on surfaces such as coffee or entrance tables, to carry the festivity throughout your home. Another way to add light is by dressing branches with fairy lights and suspending them from curtain rails or placing in large vases. This brings the outdoors in and creates a sense of whimsy and magic.
With these tips in mind, we can’t wait to get decorating our homes and really getting into the festive spirit. But rest assured, we will be doing so while sipping a small sherry, before putting our feet up to watch A Wonderful Life with a mince pie or two.
