Interior Trends – Winter ‘16
We round up three of our favourite trends that are set to be all the rage for the Winter season. Whether you’re looking to give your room a complete overhaul ready for Christmas, or just make a few simple updates, be inspired by what’s hot in interiors right now…
1. TREND: Shades of Grey
One trend that isn’t going anywhere is the dreamy grey colour palette. Grey is highly versatile and is perfect for bringing a relaxed and intimate feel to almost any space. One room where we love this colour scheme is the bedroom and there are loads of gorgeous greys in bed linen at the moment, like this stylish set from Zara Home.
For a more dramatic look, opt for dark grey walls which will help create atmosphere. When teamed with mirrored and metallic surfaces, darker walls can give your space an elegant 1920’s edge. We love this fabulous Ash Pine patterned wallpaper from Little Green which you could team with glamorous gold accessories for a luxe vibe.
A statement armchair makes a stylish and practical addition to any bedroom or dressing room. There are a number of tactile grey fabrics in the G Plan Vintage range – our favourites include Marl Grey, Bobble Charcoal and Matt Velvet Shell. An extra-large armchair like the Sixty Seven Snuggler would be a top choice for a cosy reading corner, ideal for cuddling up in during the colder months ahead!
2. TREND: Vintage Explorer
Another trend that’s set to be popular this winter is vintage explorer, taking inspiration from historical explorers and naturalists. Think ancient maps, vintage globes and old suitcases for a room packed full of character! Pamono has a wide range of cool vintage trunks and boxes that look great used as storage for clothes and shoes.
The key to making this interiors scheme work is to keep your backdrop simple. Bright white walls will make the colours and textures of your accessories stand out. A statement sofa like The Fifty Five would work well with its vintage design and unique show wood detailing. This trend is all about the details. Light up your room with Edison style bulbs and chunky brass lighting like this gorgeous Quoizel Thompson lamp.
Accessorize with quirky ornaments such as bell jars and vintage posters for an eclectic look. One of our favourite things about the vintage explorer theme is that it allows you to inject your own personality with trinkets and souvenirs you’ve picked up on your own travels. Bring in bold colours, clashing patterns and statement vintage furniture for a look that is truly wordly.
3. TREND: Rattan
With cool greys and fresh neutrals dominating the interior colour palettes, it’s important to break up this softness by introducing different textures. Rattan is a wood-weave design used for furniture and echoes a Scandinavian style that is has been extremely popular this season.
Rattan furniture has strong associations with the 70’s but throughout the year we’ve seen designers using this versatile material for more modern designs. We love these cool tall rattan chairs for a dining room space, perfect for bringing a sense of the outdoors in over the colder months.
An alternative twist on this trend is to incorporate it into your room through your choice of lighting. We adore these Java Light Shades and would pair them with sumptuously soft blankets and cushions for a contemporary, but cosy interior scheme for Winter.
