Precious Gold – Inspiration from Paris

Inspired by our latest trip to Paris for the illustrious Paris Design Week, we’re coveting all things gold.

We’ve recently returned from one of the best interior shows in the world; Maison & Objet, a huge exhibition across eight halls that brings together top designers, brands and industry experts to provide us with trend direction for the following few years. The artists and artisans exhibiting at this year’s show were asked to revisit the idea of ‘luxury’ and showcase their interpretation of ‘precious’.

The theme was expressed in a number of different ways but the overwhelming concept was portrayed in gold and textured gold. Gold is timeless and rich and is certainly a great choice if you want to create impact or add a little luxury to your space.

‘Luxe’ has taken the interiors industry by storm already and the team here at G Plan adore the trend. Tones of yellow, gold and mustard offer a highly desirable colour palette for those who want to transform a room. Choose sumptuous fabrics such as velvets or textured bouclés to support the look. Brush is one of our favourite fabrics in the G Plan Vintage range; it’s beautifully soft to touch and brings femininity and romance to the scheme. If you love the luxe look but aren’t sure whether it’s practical in your home, try introducing it subtly with scatter cushions dotted across a darker coloured sofa and chairs.

The gold colour palette works well with a number of stronger colours, including shades of grey and teal, so if you’re budget doesn’t stretch to an entire re-decoration, use gold as an accent for an instant lift. Minimalist interiors can be enhanced with key pieces in metallic finishes, for example pendant lighting. These gold beauties from Tom Dixon will add instant glamour.

Try displaying your favourite gold items on shelving or a coffee table for a more personal take on the theme of ‘precious’ – a set of old keys, some vintage jewellery or a gold framed mirror or picture. A carefully selected array of glassware or a stack of books on a sideboard will also bring this trend to life in your home, but mix up the height and tones to add interest. Using a tray to contain your display will keep the look simple and avoid it appearing cluttered.
