Sofa Buying Tips
We want you to be delighted with your chosen model from the G Plan Vintage collection, so we’ve put together this guide to help you choose the right one for you.
The first thing to consider is the size of your living room. You don’t want your sofa to overpower your existing furniture or accessories, nor do you want it to look lost in a large room.
If you’re working with a smaller space, one of the two seater sofas from the G Plan Vintage collection, such as The Sixty Six, would add a subtle but powerful statement. For larger rooms, a sofa such as The Fifty Nine would add a vast amount of character. If you’re fortunate to have a lot of space, the matching armchair or footstool would further enhance the look. Or for a bolder, eclectic edge, team with The Fifty Five chair.
Don’t forget to consider how you’ll fit the sofa into your home – how wide are your hallways or staircases? It’s a good idea to measure your doorframes before purchasing.

How do you use your sofa? Are you a social butterfly who likes to host dinner parties and drinks, or do you thrive in calmer settings and enjoy curling up with a good book? A sofa is a long-term investment that must meet your needs for years to come, and so its function is an important factor to consider.
If you often have people around, you may prefer a larger sofa, such as The Sixty Seven. If you have young children or grandchildren or like to eat your dinner on the sofa, then you may be better with a darker fabric.
We understand that you don’t just want your G Plan Vintage furniture to be iconic now, you want to enjoy its style for many years to come. That’s why every piece of furniture is handcrafted at our Wiltshire base.

Whether you’re adding to an existing vintage style or creating a new look, The G Plan Vintage Collection is full of character and won’t go unnoticed. You may want to look at the existing colour of your walls and carpet, and the style of your other furniture before you select which model is best for you. As every G Plan Vintage item is made to order, you can choose a fabric from a wide range to ensure that it integrates perfectly into your home.
Lastly, you’ll need to decide on the sofa material and colour. The collection comes in a wealth of brilliant vintage fabric colours to suit all tastes. It’s always best to order some sample fabrics beforehand if you can’t make it to your nearest stockist. We’ll deliver them to you, so you can try them out at home.
We only use premium fabrics that pass British Standards and are tested to General Domestic levels, as a minimum. Many of our vintage fabrics use Chenille yarn, which is washed and tumbled – this process lifts the pile to give a richer, fuller look and premium touch.
